Hopi Antler Ram and Deer Three Kachina Doll Sculpture by Milton Howard
![]() | Hand Carved Hopi Dancers Katsina Kachina Doll by Milton HowardThis extraordinary Native American Sculpture was hand carved & painted by Milton Howard, master Hopi artisan. This cottonwood sculpture features 3 different Dancing Kachinas in one impressive display! Milton's attention to detail is unsurpassed. The time, patience and talent is apparent with every stroke of his hand. Milton uses stain to bring out the natural grain of the customary cottonwood root, along with paint to enhance and deepen the dimension and layers of detail. The sculpture includes moveable wood Turquoise necklaces & delicately carved ornamentation such as, headdress feathers, waist bells and the sash tails behind the Dancers.....nothing is overlooked! The expertly crafted figures are on ascending levels of the sculpted wood base. On the bottom is the Antelope Dancer who dances to increase his kind. This Kachina Doll also aids in bringing rain, making the grass grow, and ensuring there is plentiful food for the future. On the second level is the Ram orMountain Sheep Dancer, who represents a game animal said to have the power to cure the ill and also bring rain. At the very top is the Deer Kachina who dances to seek consent from the hunting spirit to kill a deer for much needed food and clothing, and to ask the deer's forgiveness because its life must be sacrificed in order to provide for the tribe. The staff that is held in each hand represents the front legs of the deer. Native Americans never wasted or took for granted anything procured from nature. The back of the sculpture is decorated with large feathers that are true to the real thing. Milton has hallmarked the sculpture underneath & included the title: Deer/Mountain Sheep/Antelope.This Native American Kachina Doll sculpture is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece from the master himself, Milton Howard! The wood sculpture stands about 15-1/2" tall on an irregular shaped base that is about 5" wide by 6" long. Milton carves this Katsina Doll with impeccable precision. However, since these are hand made items and cottonwood roots all differ, some slight variations will occur from piece to piece.
