The detail is exceptional for such small wood carvings. From the fine lines of the feather work, the beaded look in the jewelry to the carving of his knuckles. The time and effort and talent is evident with every stroke of this carver. Carving them small like this requires extra precision and provides little room for the fingers and tools. One slip and an arm or feather could be easily broken off during carving. Milton uses stain to bring out the natural wood grain of the customary cottonwood root, along with paint to enhance and show more detail. He takes the time, and you can imagine the patience it must demand, to feature and enhance every tiny detail. This Hopi Owl Kachina Doll carving is 6 1/2" tall, 3" wide. Signed - M.
